Jack

Jack was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD), a rare and often life-threatening genetic disorder, when he was just a baby. CGD severely weakens the immune system, leaving children vulnerable to frequent, serious infections. Jack’s family had already faced the heartbreak of losing his uncle to the same illness at the age of seven.

In 2008, our Jack received a bone marrow transplant that transformed his life. The donation replaced his faulty immune cells, and today, about 90% of Jack’s bone marrow comes from that transplant. Thanks to early treatment and specialist care at the Great North Children’s Hospital, Jack recovered and began to thrive.
Now a young adult, Jack is studying animal management at college and working at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. His story shows how timely diagnosis and bone marrow donation can give children with CGD the chance to grow up healthy and pursue their dreams.
