A weekly clinic is held in the hospital
The Ward 3 team & NHS Uniforms
Liaison team
You will meet the Family Liaison Team at your assessment, and they will look after you during your assessment. A nurse will be allocated to you.
Consultants
You will meet several consultants to help understand your child’s medical history.
The play team
The Play Team will talk about how they can support your child with play sessions, preparing for life on the ward and will show you around.
Occupational therapist
The Occupational Therapist will talk about how they can help so that your child’s sensory, developmental and emotional needs will be met during their stay on the ward.
Physiotherapy
The physiotherapist will talk with you and your child about their developmental progress or, if they’re older, about their favourite activities and any physical challenges they might have. They will assess physiotherapy your child may need during treatment.
Psychology
They will let you know how they work alongside the Ward and how they can help you.
Dieticians
The dietician will discuss your child’s dietary requirements and how these might change during treatment.
Other specialities
Depending on your situation you may see other specialities such as respiratory, gastroenterology or dermatology specialists.
Chaplaincy
The chaplaincy team is here to support all people regardless of faith, belief or world view while they find themselves in hospital.
Dentist
Your child will see a dentist as part of their assessment, this may be when you come to Newcastle or before when you are at home.
