Dolcie-Mae

patient

After being rushed to Newcastle children’s hospital from her home in Wales, Dolcie-Mae was diagnosed with HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) at just four weeks old - a rare immune disorder that can be fatal if not treated.

For a while there was not a donor match for little Dolcie-Mae, and it was a stressful time. After a long wait she finally had a mismatched donor transplant at 4 months old, 13th March 2025. It was a nerve wracking time but Dolcie-Mae was a fighter!

After 189 days in Newcastle Dolcie-Mae was able to go home to Newport. Her mum said: "To the phenomenal staff on Ward 3: thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have all made such a difference in Dolcie-Mae’s life and mine, we’ll never forget your kindness, care, and love. There are no words to thank you for everything you’ve done for my baby girl. Your care, kindness, and dedication have meant the world to us during one of the most difficult times in our lives. You didn’t just look after her, you held us up, gave us hope, and treated us like family because of you, our little girl is on her way to healing, and I will never forget the love and strength you showed us every single day. It’s hard to imagine not seeing your faces anymore, each of you has left a mark on our hearts, and we will miss you deeply."
